The Eclipse Saxophone Quartet was formed by four graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. They combined to create a versatile and striking group, in addition to their work as freelance musicians playing with many of the UK’s leading ensembles.
ESQ’s diverse approach to jazz standards, coupled with their own compositions, has caught the attention of many audiences since their formation in 2001. They create a unique 'crossover' sound that mixes jazz, improvisation and classical music.
The quartet plays in a variety of settings, from recitals in concert halls to modern jazz in less formal venues. Performances across Europe include the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia, Manchester Jazz Festival, Jersey Jazz Festival, Bridgewater Hall Gala Concert and featured artists at the last three RNCM Saxophone Days.
Eclipse play many of their own compositions and arrangements that feature influences from their eclectic musical background. Some of these can be heard on their acclaimed debut album released in 2002.
Recently, the group has begun collaborating with percussionist Dominic Sales on an exciting new musical project for sax quartet and drums. |
